Thank you for Ursula’s story. I am the cousin to your Johnstown connection. I met her around 1962, she was very gracious to me and let me stay at her house even though she had never met me. I was the niece of her sister-in-law Josephine Zimmer. My most vivid memory in addition to her kindness was her fragrance. I still consider it one of my favorite perfumes. It is called TOSCA and it is made in Germany. I was not aware of all the hardships she went through. She certainly was a strong woman. Thank you for sharing. Patty Brown Jancar

  3. I was researching my husband, Richard Deal or originally DIEHL, ancestry and somehow Rachel Zimmer Malley, is a match. I’m still figuring out all his ties and I find this wonderful because there are some members on his tree that only go back 2-3 generations. I am retired law enforcement and have training in this type of ‘stuff”, so to speak. I am saying…no hints, no records, etc… so finding Rachel in a link to his tree was refreshing. This all lead to me reading the story of Ms Ursula.
I love hearing stories of WWII and everyone/anyone during that time. What a beautiful contribution she gave to not only her grandchildren, but to others. Sounds like it would be a wonderful movie documentary. My father was in the military and my stepDADDY as well. I have a hitler youth knife handed to me from my father while he was in the military. I often wonder what or who it was that first held that knife in their hands… what is their story? I’m not even sure how he acquired the knife and never asked.
Sorry, I am a zillion thoughts racing through my mind. Thanks you for sharing her story. What a strong, wonderful lady. YAHWEH (GOD in Hebrew) had plans for her and she was one of HIS children to do the job!
    Respectfully,
    Elizabeth

  4. Uncle Gustav may be my great uncle! His sister Frieda Paukstadt (there were 5 brothers and 5 sisters from what I’ve heard) was my grandmother. More research needed, but I hope!
