In rememberance…

Ursula

This website is a tribute and remembrance of my mother, Ursula Zimmer, born Gerda Ursula Paukstadt in 1923 in East Prussia, Germany. She passed away in 1998 at the age of 74 leaving a son and 3 granddaughters.

After losing some of her immediate family in World War II, fleeing the Russians and starting with nothing as a refugee in western Europe she met a US soldier and came to America to build a life and eventually achieved a successful career and home ownership, two things she always dreamed of.

Her life is a story of family, survival, immigration, hard work and finally achieving her own American dream. This site contains pictures and information that only give a small glimpse into her remarkable life. Most importantly it contains “Omi’s Story“, the story of her early life and escape from the Russians in her own words which she wrote when she learned she was seriously ill.

Welcome to “Omi’s Story“. Please leave a comment on the Comment page if you knew Ursula or have a contribution.
